Nomex Distribution and Fabrication
Nomex® is a brand-name line of high-performance meta-aramid materials manufactured by DuPont and distributed through ESPE Manufacturing Co. Inc., a trusted name among Nomex distributors. In use since the 1960s, Nomex has built a reputation as one of the most dependable solutions for thermal and electrical insulation across a wide range of industries. Its combination of heat resistance, dielectric strength, and mechanical durability makes it a go-to option wherever lightweight, reliable Nomex insulation is critical.
Nomex is available in two primary forms: rolls of thin-gauge material known as electrical insulating paper, and medium- to thick-gauge sheets known as pressboard. ESPE Manufacturing stocks a full range of Nomex types and thicknesses, with customization available to meet specific application requirements.
What is Nomex? (And Why It’s Still Relevant)
Nomex is a meta-aramid fiber designed for environments where heat and electrical stress are constant. Unlike coated materials, its resistance is built into the fiber itself, so it doesn’t wear off over time. This makes it a dependable electric insulation material for long-term performance.
It’s commonly available as flexible electrical insulating paper or rigid pressboard, allowing it to serve both protective and structural roles. Because of this versatility, Nomex continues to be widely used in electrical systems, aerospace, and industrial applications.
Types of Nomex® Available at ESPE Manufacturing
ESPE Manufacturing stocks the full Nomex 410, 993, and 994 product lines — covering every standard paper and pressboard configuration. Each type is suited to a specific range of applications and performance demands.

Core Properties That Make Nomex Stand Out
Nomex performs consistently under multiple forms of stress. It resists high temperatures by carbonizing instead of melting, helping maintain insulation even in extreme conditions. Electrically, it offers strong dielectric strength, making it effective as electrical insulating paper in motors and transformers.
It also holds up mechanically, resisting tearing and wear, while maintaining stability in environments exposed to oils and chemicals. These combined characteristics make it a reliable electric insulation material across demanding applications.
Nomex® Applications
Nomex® materials are specified across a broad range of industries wherever thermal protection, electrical insulation, and long-term durability are required. Its distinctive combination of properties (lightweight construction, high heat resistance, and strong dielectric performance) makes it a trusted solution from the factory floor to aerospace structures.
Electrical Power Production
Nomex® plays a critical role in electrical insulation for power generation and distribution equipment. Its outstanding dielectric strength and thermal properties make it well-suited for demanding energy applications, including:
- Dry-type transformer insulation
- Fluid-filled transformer dielectric barriers
- Wind turbine transformer linings for adverse weather environments
- Arc flash protection for welding applications
- Electric motor insulation components, including end laminations
Aerospace & Marine
Nomex® is a foundational material in aerospace and marine structural composites. When formed into honeycomb structures — often in combination with materials such as Kevlar® — it provides exceptional strength-to-weight performance for applications including:
- Aircraft doors, panels, and interior structures
- Wing and fuselage components
- Marine hull and deck structures
- Lightweight composite panels requiring structural rigidity
Automotive
In automotive applications, Nomex® delivers reliable thermal protection in high-heat environments. Its ability to maintain performance at elevated temperatures makes it a dependable choice for components exposed to engine and exhaust heat, including:
- Heat shield padding and linings
- High-temperature tubing for turbocharger applications
- Thermal barriers in engine compartments

Why Nomex Outperforms Other Insulation Materials
Many insulation materials perform well initially but degrade over time, especially under heat. Nomex differs because its resistance is inherent, allowing it to maintain performance longer.
This durability helps reduce maintenance and replacement needs, making it a more reliable electric insulation material over time. Its ability to function as both electrical insulating paper and rigid board also provides flexibility in design. Experienced Nomex distributors like us can help match these material forms to specific applications.
